4 Scams to Avoid This Cyber Monday

Don’t Fall for These Scams

We all love shopping online and getting great deals especially during the holidays. While shopping online, remember those deals might cost you more than the cost of the item. Cyber Monday has a high target rate for scammers. Make sure you do not fall for any of these scams this holiday season.

1. Bogus Deals

Don’t believe an advertised price that is ridiculously low. It may be a scam, and you’ll never get the goods you order. If it sounds way too good to be true, it usually is.

2. Bait & Switch Sweepstakes

Scammers will create fake sweepstakes to steal your personal information. The winnings are never worth the risk.

3. Delivery Problems

If you receive an email claiming there’s been a problem with the delivery of your purchases, be wary-they’re likely scams. Contact the company directly if you think there might be a problem. Do not use the information on the email.

4. Wire Transfers

This Cyber Monday, use your credit card. It offers you the most protection against purchases that don’t turn out to be what you expected.

Knowing is half of the battle when it comes to online scams. Even if you are careful, you might become a victim of a scam. If you’ve fallen for a scam, contact the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov or call 1-877-FTC-HELP. They can help you start a claim and may be able to help you recover your funds. Contact your credit card company and credit union and report that you are a victim of fraud.
